Why it matters

Air conditioning work in the UK is legally regulated. Anyone installing or servicing a system that uses refrigerant gas must hold individual F-Gas qualifications, and the company carrying out the work must hold its own F-Gas company registration (commonly through REFCOM, though other approved schemes exist). This isn’t a nice-to-have — working on this equipment without it is a criminal offence, and it’s one of the simplest, fastest ways to tell a properly run installer apart from one cutting corners.

Beyond the legal minimum, look for manufacturer accreditation (Daikin, Mitsubishi, Toshiba and others all run partner schemes), clear evidence of public liability insurance, and a willingness to explain — in plain terms — why a particular system suits your property rather than just quoting a price.
